AVMA's Animal Welfare Assessment Contest

Registration is now open for the new Virtual Animal Welfare Assessment Contest (AWJAC) taking place April 22-23. Veterinary, undergraduate, and graduate students are invited to attend this two-day, condensed and convenient contest option.

A limited number of spots are available for member veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and those who have completed postgraduate studies (e.g., M.S., PhD) to also participate in a non-competitive capacity.

One virtual scenario will be evaluated each of the two days. Scenarios will be assessed by individual participants with an oral summary presentation delivered before an expert panelist. Educational presentations on contemporary issues in animal welfare will be offered each day following the scenario and assessments.

Species in the spring contest include:

  • Potbellied pigs
  • Broiler breeder chickens
