Call for Veterinarians from the Graduating Classes of 2017-2021 to Participate in the CVMA Animal Welfare Committee
May 31, 2021
The Animal Welfare Committee (AWC) of the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) advocates for and promotes improvements to animal welfare within various animal-based industries, to governments and to the public. As well, the AWC advises the CVMA on animal welfare issues, participates in animal welfare-related organizations, and develops pertinent position statements which provide information for multiple target audiences. The AWC is comprised of veterinarians and ex-officio members from various disciplines and areas of expertise.
As part of the AWC’s commitment to the CVMA strategic plan which includes providing mentorship and engaging new graduates, a pilot project is underway for the creation of an Auxiliary Group of recent graduates to participate in AWC activities. This will be a unique opportunity for recent graduates to network, to meaningfully contribute their views on animal welfare issues of national importance, to learn from experienced subject matter experts and to provide support to the AWC and its activities.
The AWC is looking for interested veterinary graduates from 2017 or later who are actively involved in veterinary medicine in Canada, are members of the CVMA and who have a demonstrated commitment to animal welfare. The pilot project is projected to last for 1-2 years. This will be followed by a review and determination of next steps regarding the Animal Welfare Committee Auxiliary (AWCA).
The CVMA is committed to, and seeks to advance an accessible, equitable, diverse, and inclusive profession.
Please send your CV including all Animal Welfare-related activities and letters of interest on or before June 14 to:
