Hello Fellow Veterinary Students - by Kate Rundle (SCVMA President 2018-2019)

September 3, 2019

It is difficult to believe another school year is starting! Last year was a busy and wonderful year serving as your Students of the CVMA (SCVMA) Committee president! I really enjoyed sitting on the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) Council, and learning more about what the CVMA does for Canadian veterinarians. Giving students a voice at this table has been an honor and I am happy I had the opportunity to represent Canadian students on a national level. I would like to thank the CVMA Council for always being so welcoming and instantly making me feel like part of the team.

This past March, at CVMA’s Committee Weekend, a strategic planning session was held to guide the direction of the CVMA over the next few years. It was great to provide a student perspective on CVMA’s core values and what is important to Canadian veterinary students. We all had a great time at the SCVMA Symposium at la Faculté de médecine vétérinaire (FMV) de l’Université de Montréal in January! Personally, I learned so much and it was great to get to know more veterinary students from across Canada. Florence Leduc, the FMV SCVMA Committee representative and her team did a wonderful job planning this event and I know planning is already underway for another great Symposium next year at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

I would like to thank all the SCVMA Committee reps from each of the other veterinary colleges for fostering such a fun and supportive environment. It has been a great year getting to know you all! It has been a privilege to be your SCVMA Committee president and I know the next year’s president, Audrey Roy from FMV, will do a wonderful job. Good luck to all students in the upcoming year! Congratulations to all 2019 graduates and welcome incoming veterinary students!
