Formation of a Canadian National Small Ruminant Veterinary Group

January 4, 2021

We are excited to announce the formation of a new national veterinary organization, the Canadian Small Ruminant Veterinarians/Veterinaries des Petits Ruminants du Canada.  The CSRV/VPRC aims to provide a national voice to veterinarians who provide veterinary services to sheep and goats producers across Canada. Its main role will be to work with the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) on issues affecting the health and welfare of small ruminants, to lobby government, and to support small ruminant practitioners from coast to coast. The organizational committee currently consists of nine veterinarians from British Columbia to Atlantic Canada (representatives from Atlantic Canada (2), Quebec (2), Ontario (2) and Western Canada (2) and one ex officio member).

At this time, there is no individual membership as the intent is to liaise with provincial or regional small ruminant veterinary groups and individual veterinarians to provide a nation-wide consensus on issues of importance. However, a Facebook page has been created for small ruminant practitioners across the country to share information, concerns, cases and whatever is needed. This Facebook page can be found at: Also, a private Facebook group has been created. If you wish to be added to this group, please contact Amy Gaw or Heather Aitken on Facebook.

Please help us spread the word! The only way we can meet the needs of small ruminant practitioners is if we hear your voices, needs, and concerns. If you have anything you would like to discuss with CSRV/VPRC, please contact Dr. Amy Gaw at

We look forward to hearing from you.
