Health Canada Consults with CVMA Regarding Ongoing Review Flea and Tick Spot-on Products

January 12, 2018

At the end of 2017, Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) requested a consultation with the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) regarding its ongoing review of pesticide flea and tick spot-on products, including a discussion of possible mitigation options.

The PMRA has previously worked with the CVMA on outreach activities concerning adverse effects reports in companion animals associated with spot-on products, including engaging with the CVMA’s National Issues Committee in 2010-2011 to create a survey on the issue. Read the results here.

CVMA also posted an article in 2014, Flea and Tick Products Can Be Toxic to Cats, under the pet owner section of its website.

Discussion from the consultation will aid in PMRA’s development of future documentation.
