The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) regulates the importation of certain animals in order to prevent animal diseases of concern from entering and spreading in Canada, including diseases that can be transmitted to people.

The CFIA recommends that pet owners consult the Automated Import Reference System (AIRS) or contact the nearest CFIA Animal Health District Office before travelling with their animals to ensure they comply with import requirements and know the risks of animal diseases in other countries.
