Minister of Health Sends Welcome Greetings to CVMA Convention on Prince Edward Island

The Honourable Jane Philpott, Minister of Health sent a letter to the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) to welcome the association’s annual convention to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
In the letter, she describes the Convention as an excellent opportunity to learn about the many innovative developments in the veterinary field.
She raises the issue of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) as a serious global public health issue. She commends the CVMA on its work updating the prudent use guidelines for veterinary antimicrobial medications and the beginning phase of a veterinary antimicrobial use surveillance program as they are examples of a shared commitment to reduce the burden of AMR.
She highlights that the Government of Canada looks forward to continuing its work with partners such as the CVMA to find innovative solutions to the global health problem.
