Meet the Shining Stars of the 2017 Emerging Leaders Program

September 5, 2017

The stars were shining bright at the 2017 CVMA Emerging Leaders Program (ELP), sponsored by Virox Animal Health, which successfully engaged with 37 participants during the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) annual convention in July on Prince Edward Island.

Meet the 2017 ELP Shining Stars here!

Facilitator Dr. Rick DeBowes’ interactive style of teaching, once again, captivated the allowing them to walk away with the proper tools to cope with day-to-day challenges encountered in veterinary practice.

"DeBowes’ broke down the psychology behind low staff morale, burnout, imposter syndrome and financial challenges that plagues us as veterinarians. Not only does he shed light on these topics, but provided the tools and steps to combat these issues on a daily basis." - Dr. Brendon Laing, Town & Country Animal Hospital - Stouffville, Ontario, ELP 2017

At the end of the two half-day sessions, all participants were presented with a graduation certificate during the luncheon with Virox Animal Health representatives in attendance.

ELP participants also attended a networking night with CVMA Council members in order to provide an opportunity for them to learn more about the CVMA and the veterinary profession.

Participants were delighted with the skills taught and interaction throughout the program, as stated in the following testimonial:

"I envisioned learning communication skills through the CVMA Emerging Leader Program to become a more effective communicator. However, I came away from the workshop with more than that. The program enabled an increase in self-awareness that allowed me to explore my current and future relationships. I took from the program that a positive attitude and performing good medicine are the cornerstones of an effective veterinary leader." – Dr. Marianne Parent, Associate veterinarian at Petfocus Harbour Cities Veterinary Hospital, Dartmouth, NS, ELP 2017
