Three CVMA Initiatives to Help Veterinarians Achieve a Successful Career and a Balanced Life

May 31, 2017

We hope the CVMA’s Early Career DVM Resource Hub, Online Career and Business Toolkit and Veterinarian Health and Wellness Resources will help veterinarians achieve a successful career and a balanced life; one of the CVMA’s 3 strategic priorities.

Early Career DVM Resource Hub

Starting your veterinary career is an exciting but challenging time in your life so the CVMA created the Early Career DVM Resource Hub. This website section includes 3 categories: financial planning and budgeting; communications; and career development. Some of the tools and resources in these categories include, for example, student loan repayment estimators, a budgeting mobile app and links to instructional communications videos.

Online Career and Business Toolkit

The CVMA Business Management Program created a new Career and Business Toolkit section of the CVMA website to provide veterinarians easy access to pertinent online resources and information on personal financial management, veterinary business management and client management. In this Toolkit, the resources are grouped into 3 categories: Financial and Practice Management; Human Resources; and Communications and Marketing. You will find links to free CE courses, articles, tools, calculators, services, guides, blogs and advice.

Veterinarian health and wellness resources

In the veterinary profession, stress and the danger of long-term exhaustion are significant, and the risk of suicide among veterinarians is disturbing. Whether you are a student, faculty member, practice owner, practice manager or associate veterinarian, the long hours, heavy workload, and poor work-life balance can threaten your health and well-being. There has been a wealth of discussion on the topic of wellness in veterinary medicine over the past few years which is why the CVMA is keeping this issue at the forefront. The CVMA has created a website section to provide easy access to pertinent resources and information from numerous sources to help support the personal and professional well-being of veterinarians and veterinary students, with a focus on emotional and mental health, physical health, and veterinarian wellness.
