Wildfires: Please Help Your Fellow Veterinarians in Australia by Donating to the AVA Veterinary Benevolent Fund

January 11, 2020

Thank you to everyone who has already contributed to the effort to help stabilize the devastating wildfire situation that is currently ravaging many parts of Australia.

If you have not had the opportunity to donate or are interested in increasing your support, we encourage you to donate directly to the Australian Veterinary Association’s Benevolent Fund. Veterinarians are being called upon to assist and provide essential services as bushfires continue to destroy many parts of the country. The AVA Veterinary Benevolent Fund will be used to assist members financially impacted by the fires as well as members who are doing pro-bono work in the response.

You can make a donation by visiting this website, ava.com.au/donate , and selecting the Benevolent Fund as your donation option.

We are grateful to the Canadian firefighters who have been deployed in an effort to save thousands of lives and protect remaining wildlife and ecosystems. Please note that Canada’s Chief Veterinary Officer has confirmed the federal government, under the International Animal Health Emergency Arrangement between, Australia, New Zealand, the US, Canada and the UK, has offered veterinary assistance. The Australian Government has not requested such help yet. Canada remains on standby if assistance is needed.

Thank you for your support during this tremendous tragedy.

Sincerely,
Dr. Melanie Hicks
CVMA President
