Do you have an interest in Canine and Feline Anesthesia?
The Douglas College VTEC program is excited to announce the launch of its Veterinary Anesthesia Refresher Certificate program. This program is a comprehensive review of Canine and Feline Anesthesia, targeted to RVTs working in small animal practice, and is the first of two certificate programs that will be offered. The second certificate (under development) will be Veterinary Anesthesia Advanced techniques and these two certificates together are designed to support RVTs who wish to pursue their specialty in Veterinary Anesthesia. DVMs and unregistered RVTs/ internationally trained DVMs are also welcome to register for this program.
The primary instructor and course designer for this program is Ashley De Santis, MEd, RVT, VTS (Anesthesia & Analgesia) who graduated from the University College of the Cariboo (now TRU) in 2003. In 2009, Ashley was the first RVT in British Columbia achieve her Veterinary Technician Specialty certification in Anesthesia & Analgesia. Her other passion for training and mentoring fellow employees led her to a Lab Facilitator position at Douglas College in 2010. As Ashley’s instructing experience grew, so did her passion for curriculum and instructional design, simulation education, and pedagogical best practices, which led her to complete her Master of Education (Health Education & Active Living) through Simon Fraser University. Ashley is now a full-time Faculty Instructor in the Douglas College Veterinary Technology Program.
This Anesthesia Refresher certificate offers 70 hours of CE including 3 asynchronous instructor-supported online courses and a 4 day wet Lab - see attached program syllabus for more details.
