Symposium 2021 Logo

The 2023 SVCMA Symposium ran from January 19 to 21, 2023 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. The Organizing Committee, headed by Lindsay Gallant, staged a superb event, the first in-person Symposium since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The two-day Symposium took place at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), on the campus of the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI).

2023 Symposium Welcome Ceremony

On the first day, veterinarian speakers ranged from faculty staff to professionals invited just for the occasion. The range of topics varied, giving every student the opportunity to find a session suited to their interests. There was a session on dentistry for large felines, another on the need for intestinal surgical intervention on rabbits, and another on pain management in large animals.

Many of these sessions were highly interactive, encouraging exchanges between students and speakers, and leading to discussions enriched by the views of students from different schools. There were several workshops available every day, including exposure to specialized medical imaging and learning to better manage veterinarian-client communication.

2023 Symposium Gala

Social events were organized for the evenings. Each event involved surprises and fun activities, guaranteeing a chance to relax and make new memories and friendships.

The Symposium Gala, held on the last evening, started with a 3-course dinner, punctuated by several inspiring speeches, mainly around the topic of perseverance in veterinary medicine, in accordance with this year’s Symposium theme.

Following the meal, the hall was transformed into a dance floor, wrapping up this unforgettable weekend to the sound of music.
