The CVMA welcomed over 600 attendees, including over 100 virtual attendees, to its second hybrid Convention in historical Quebec City, Quebec.
The week started off with the CVMA Signature Events Day offering the CVMA Summit that focused on Evolution of Veterinary Practice in a Disrupted and Demanding World; the National Issues Forum titled Showcasing Veterinary Practices Adapting to the Current Workforce Shortage; and the CVMA Annual General Meeting.
Our CVMA President, Dr. Chris Bell, welcomed attendees with a ribbon cutting ceremony that opened the doors to the exhibit hall. The CVMA hosted its second in-person Awards Gala in the
evening, where attendees celebrated the accomplishments of their colleagues with sparkling beverages and local desserts.
The CVMA Emerging Leaders Program, business management sessions, and over 120 concurrent sessions rounded out the continuing education (CE) presented by top-notch speakers. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about dermatology, internal medicine, equine medicine, ruminants, animal welfare, One Health, professional wellness, and much more.
The CVMA showcased the associations 75th anniversary throughout the convention center with a strong focus at registration and CVMA booth with an iconic “over the years” timeline and list of CVMA Past-Presidents. The CVMA staff and Council members were onsite to answer questions and play along in a trivia game for a chance to win prizes.
The CVMA Quest encouraged attendees to engage with sponsors, exhibitors, CVMA staff, and other key areas to compete for great prizes, such as iPads, BOSE headphones, and FitBit. Prizes were generously sponsored by all participating exhibitors.
This year, CVMA introduced new events and initiatives to attendees. Each onsite attendee received a CVMA 75th branded water bottle to support the Centre des congrès de Québec with their Sustainable Efforts Initiative. Onsite attendees also received a CVMA branded QR code to be placed on their bottle in partnership with Fill it Forward. Every time an attendee refilled their water bottle, they scanned the QR code to populate the leaderboard within the CVMA’s private group through the Fill it Forward app. This allowed attendees to track their individual environmental impact and CVMA to track its overall organizational impact.
In addition, a virtual photobooth was integrated into the event app, which allowed both in-person and virtual attendees to stay connected and show their experiences with customized backgrounds, frames, and stickers. A TV monitor showing the social media wall was placed at registration.
The CVMA hosted its second Job Fair that brought in 4 veterinary clinics. In partnership with LendCare, the CVMA hosted another Fun(d) Run to raise money for a local charity, Fondation Aide Vétérinaire Internationale.
The CVMA hosted their social evening on the AML-Louis Jolliet for a dinner cruise. Guests were treated to a cocktail reception, sit down dinner, and dancing, all while taking in the beautiful panoramic views of Quebec City. The social evening sold out with 275 guests.
With the direction of the Professional Development Committee, the creativity of the 2023 CVMA Convention local chair, Dr. Marie-Claude Blais, and a team of volunteers and CVMA staff, this year’s convention was an exhilarating success!
