CVMA Convention Unaffected by Calgary Water Shortage

June 19, 2024

The 2024 CVMA Convention destination, Calgary, Alberta, has recently experienced a critical water main break affecting city-wide usage in residential areas.

While limitations have not been imposed on businesses, the city has offered recommendations to help limit usage. Businesses using water to deliver a product or service that is life sustaining for people, animals, and plants are exempt.

The convention’s main hotel, the Hyatt Regency Calgary, is assisting the community by participating in voluntary indoor water restrictions and reducing water usage where possible in the “back of house” – reduction in water usage that does not impact the health, welfare, or comfort of guests.

We ask that convention attendees support the CVMA’s strategic priority to establish a profession represented by a national association that is sustainable and future-ready by decreasing your carbon footprint while in Calgary by reducing water consumption when possible and enrolling in your hotel’s towel and linen program. Guests will receive water shortage updates upon check in.

The convention planning committee will continue to work diligently with Calgary partners to stay up to date with the most recent information.

More information on this situation can be found here.

Convention registration is still open and will remain open throughout the event. We encourage you to register before coming onsite to avoid lines.

We look forward to hosting you in Calgary.
