CVMA Job Posting: Director, Veterinary Wellness, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

This position will begin as a contract position for a three-year period that can be renewed by CVMA.

Reporting to the CVMA Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CVMA Director, Veterinary Wellness, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is responsible for the management and administration of the CVMA Wellness Program.

Purpose of the role

Developing, designing, overseeing, implementing, and executing CVMA’s Wellness Programs with the help of the CVMA Wellness Advisory Group, and on behalf of CVMA’s membership, in support of and in line with the long-term strategy and goals of the association as set out by CVMA Executive and Council.

With the CEO, this role will be responsible for the day-to-day communication of the impact of CVMA’s wellness work to internal and member/external audiences.

This position will also be responsible for developing and implementing an equity, diversity and inclusion program and will work closely with: the CVMA Advisory group on EDI; the Sustainable Veterinarian Program being led by the Co-Director, National Issues at CVMA; and the CVMA Communications Team. 

Professional Competencies, Key Knowledge, and Experience

  • Knowledge and deep understanding of psychological health, injury and wellness issues at the individual, team, and organizational level particularly related to the veterinary profession.
  • Ideally a veterinarian and experience as a CVMA member with demonstrated strong commitment to CVMA strategic priorities and goals.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing effective wellness campaigns.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influence particularly within the veterinary profession, veterinary industry partners, veterinary associations, and wellbeing space.
  • Demonstrated experience leading volunteer teams in project development, planning, execution, and management.
  • Skill and experience developing strategic and impactful communications.
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic business and project planning and prioritization.

Core Competencies and Skills

  • Excellent communication skills across different audiences and platforms (face-to-face and virtual) – verbal, written and visual.
  • Proficiency in presenting.
  • Well-developed influence and engagement skills.
  • Leadership and individual team skills in a cross-functional organization, including virtual.
  • Demonstrated innovative and higher order approach to problem solving.
  • Proven track record in meeting deadlines without compromise on accuracy or detail.
  • Well-developed planning and organization skills with experience in leading projects to implementation and evaluation.
  • Ability to inspire, coach and motivate a diverse team including volunteers.
  • Intermediate Word/Excel/PowerPoint skills.
  • Experience (certification or degrees) in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational/Organizational Health Promotion and Safety, Public Health, or a related discipline is desirable.
  • Excellent English written and oral communication.
  • Functional ability in French language would be an asset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize annual calendar of events to ensure all activities are implemented in a consistent and timely manner.
  • Manage vendor and other relationships for wellness programming, support, and resources.
  • Manage existing wellness programs (e.g. CVMA Wellness Advisory Group, Together All, and the Working Mind) and evaluate new wellness initiatives that continue to improve CVMA’s suite of resources.
  • Develop wellness programs that align with CVMA’s strategic priorities and meet the needs of members.
  • Provide regular reports (e.g. CVMA Executive and Council meetings).

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
