Awarded annually by the Registered Veterinary Technologists and Technicians of Canada (RVTTC) to the Registered Veterinary Technologist/Technician (RVT) who exemplifies the definition of an outstanding individual in the RVT profession. The award is sponsored by Hill’s Pet Nutrition.

2023 Recipient: Vanessa George, RVT
Vanessa George boasts a dynamic 17-year career in the veterinary profession. As a veterinary technologist, she dedicated her expertise to mixed, small, and exotic animal clinical practice. She also served on the Alberta Veterinary Technologist Association (ABVTA) board, including as President in 2015. In 2016, she assumed the esteemed role of Executive Director at ABVTA.

As the Executive Director, Vanessa plays a pivotal role championing the rights and aspirations of veterinary technologists. Her tireless efforts have led to enhanced access to professional development programs for RVTs, spearheaded workforce initiatives in collaboration with provincial and national partners, and established essential member support programs. In recognition of her invaluable contributions to the ABVTA, Vanessa received the prestigious ABVTA Appreciation Award twice, in 2010 and 2017.

Vanessa actively participates in various working groups and boards beyond ABVTA, advocating for pet safekeeping programs, animal welfare groups, and veterinary workforce initiatives. Her comprehensive involvement showcases her passion for advancing
the veterinary field and addressing critical workforce challenges.

She lives in Edmonton with her husband, daughter, and a delightful collection of furry and feathered pets. Vanessa is an active volunteer in her community and an avid metalsmith, participating in art shows and markets.
