Alberta Veterinarian Honoured for Dedicating Entire Career to Canadian Cattle

HALIFAX, N.S. – Dr. Brian Taylor was awarded the 2022 Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) Merck Veterinary Award for his more than four decades of cattle work that has contributed significantly to the overall improvement of the bovine industry.
“Dr. Taylor’s high quality of care for his clients and patients over his more than 40-year career has earned him a huge clientele, and many recommendations. His thoughtfulness, willingness, and support has been and continues to be essential for the many students, clients, and staff that walk through the doors at the clinic,” says Kristin Mills, RVT. “In Ontario, Dr. Taylor started many herd health management programs for both dairy and beef producers. When he moved, he brought that knowledge with him and has continued to provide that service to producers in southern Alberta.”
Dr. Taylor grew up on a small cow-calf farm in Caledon, Ont. and attended the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC). After graduation, Dr. Taylor began working, mainly in dairy and equine practice, for the same veterinarian who inspired him to pursue veterinary medicine, Dr. Gerald D Stirk. Dr. Taylor became a partner in 1985 and managed their Schomberg clinic.
Later in life, Dr. Taylor decided to relocate to Alberta and began working in mixed animal practice at the Nanton Veterinary Clinic and became a certified Veterinary Acupuncturist after completing the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) course.

From a welfare point of view, Dr. Taylor has been a tremendous asset to our ranch and our animals.”
Dr. Taylor is a coveted professional at herd health management and has a stellar reputation for his helpful and friendly demeanour.
The Merck Veterinary Award, sponsored by Merck Animal Health, is presented to a veterinarian whose work in food animal production practice, clinical research, or basic sciences is judged to have contributed significantly to the advancement of food animal medicine and surgery, including herd health management.
