SBCV 2025 Two-Day Feline and Canine Dental Wet Lab

For those wishing to stay at the hotel, reservations must be made by Wednesday, January 22, 2025 to receive the group rate. 

This two-day CE session is generously sponsored by Serona Animal Health. Only SBCV members can purchase dental wet lab tickets as an exclusive benefit of membership. The CVBC has approved 14 CE hours. Participation on both days is required. 

Each participant will have their own cadaver specimens to work on. Participants may work at their own level and speed. We recommend participants bring head loupes and lights, if possible, and a scrub top.

Canine Dental Wet Lab: Extractions in the Dog (7 CE hours - this is an all-day wet lab)

All wet labs are led by instructors Angie Bebel, DVM, DAVDC; Olivia Saunders, BVM&S, MRCVS, AVDC (Resident); and Susan McTaggart, DVM, FAVD; with Tara Evans, equipment and instrument specialist at Serona. There will be an instructor-to-participant ratio of 1:5.

This wet lab will be held in the Lalique Room and Baccarat Room (second floor) of the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown. Pay parking is available in the hotel parking lot. For those who will be using transit, depart from Metrotown Station, walk straight up Central Boulevard, and turn right on McKay Avenue to get to the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown.

Cost
Cost of one ticket for the two-day 14-hour Feline and Canine Wet Lab is $3,925.00 (plus tax) for SBCV members. Kindly note that this event is available to SBCV members only. Coffee, tea, and lunch are provided in the cost of this ticket. Once purchased, these tickets are non-refundable.

Wet Lab Descriptions

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2025
Feline Dental Wet Lab (7 CE Hours)

Registration: 8:00 am - 9:00 am

Lectures: 9:00 am – 12:30 pm

• Radiographic interpretation in the cat.
• Extraction instruments and use in the cat.
• Dental blocks in the cat.
• Cat burs and instruments, drill technique.

Lunch: 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm

Wet Lab: 1:30 pm – 5:00 pm
• Plan extractions and choose instruments based on the tooth shape, the age of the animal, and the location in the jaw.
• Creation of successful mucoperiosteal flaps for the canines and caudal cheek teeth, including periosteal releasing incision technique.
• Section different multi-rooted teeth and choose the appropriate instruments and burs to facilitate surgical extractions.

 

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2025
Canine Dental Wet Lab (7 CE Hours)

Registration: 8:00 am - 9:00 am

Lectures: 9:00 am – 11:30 am
• Extraction technique in the dog.
• Radiographic interpretation in the dog.
• Dog burs and instruments.

Wet Lab: 11:30 am – 12:30 pm

Lunch: 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm Lunch

Wet Lab (continued): 1:30 pm – 5:00 pm
• Identify and use appropriate surgical instruments and burs to facilitate extractions.
• Create a mucoperiosteal flap and practice releasing tension.
• Section a multi-rooted tooth and use luxators and burs to facilitate surgical extractions.
• Discuss particular considerations for brachycephalics and very small dogs.
