Animal Welfare Assessment Contest

February 14, 2024

The AVMA virtual Animal Welfare Assessment Contest (AWJAC®) is back for 2024. The contest, taking place April 20-21, is open to veterinary, undergraduate, and graduate students. Veterinary technicians, AVMA members, and those who have completed postgraduate studies (e.g., M.S., PhD) can also participate in a non-competitive capacity.

Dates: April 20-21, 2024
Location: Online

One virtual scenario will be evaluated each day. Scenarios will be assessed individually by the participant with an oral presentation given to an expert judge. Presentations on housing system management and animal welfare will be offered each day following the scenario and assessments.

Species in the virtual 2024 contest include:

  • Pet goldfish
  • Cattle in mobile and small slaughter facilities

Registration opens in late February. Be on the lookout for details on how to register for the contest.

Information will be updated on the AWJAC website as it becomes available.
