Extenuating Circumstances (For PSA Only)

Extenuating circumstances, such as acute illness, injury, and/or the death endured by an immediate family member or endured by the candidate themselves, are incidents that arise unexpectedly near to or on exam day that could affect a candidate’s performance. Candidates are strongly encouraged not to attempt an exam and to withdraw if they are ill or have other extenuating circumstances.

If illness or other type of emergency arises after arriving at the exam site, the Head Examiner is authorized to make decisions regarding admission to or continuation through the exam, if the circumstances are determined to be severe enough to cause risk or disruption to the candidate or others.

If a candidate withdraws from the PSA during an exam session due to extenuating circumstances, the candidate must immediately notify the PSA Head Examiner at the exam site and the NEB of the withdrawal (within 24 hours). The NEB will review such occurrences on a case-by-case basis. The candidate must provide supporting documentation to the NEB of the withdrawal within seven days from the date of the scheduled exam. Extenuating circumstances must be supported with official documentation. Supporting documents must be on official letterhead, be dated and signed by the issuer and be obtained as close to the exam date as possible. When possible, the documentation should indicate how the extenuating circumstances affected you on exam day.

In the case of a withdrawal from the PSA either near to or during the PSA due to extenuating circumstances, the candidate may request a partial refund (up to a 20% refund of the PSA exam fees paid + applicable tax). The candidate must send a written request by email to the NEB (neb-bne@cvma-acmv.org) within seven days and include the appropriate documentation, as indicated in the paragraph above. The NEB is not responsible for any costs, fees, penalties or losses that candidates may incur (e.g., relating to travel, childcare or wages).

PSA exam fees cannot be refunded if the candidate fails to receive a visa or other required travel documentation to allow travel to the exam site. Failure to obtain a visa or other required travel documentation is not considered an extenuating circumstance. Candidates are responsible for ensuring all documents permitting travel are in place prior to submitting any non-refundable/non-transferable fee.

Candidates are strongly encouraged not to attempt an exam and to withdraw if they are ill or have other extenuating circumstances.

Once a candidate begins a section, it will count as an attempt, even if they are unable to finish. It is recommended that candidates consider this carefully if they feel their performance could be affected by extenuating circumstances.

If illness or other type of emergency arises after arriving at the exam site, the CPE Head Examiner is authorized to make decisions regarding admission to or continuation through the exam, if the circumstances are determined to be severe enough to cause risk or disruption to a candidate or others.

If a candidate withdraws from the CPE during an exam session due to extenuating circumstances, the candidate must immediately notify the CPE Head Examiner at the exam site and the NEB of the withdrawal (within 24 hours). The NEB will review such occurrences on a case-by-case basis. The candidate must provide supporting documentation of the withdrawal to the NEB within seven days. Supporting documents must be on official letterhead, be dated and signed by the issuer and be obtained as close to the exam date as possible. When possible, the documentation should indicate how the extenuating circumstances affected you on exam day. At the next available opportunity, the candidate will be required to take those sections that were not taken (have not started) and repeat any other sections that were taken and failed during the exam session from which they withdrew. Nevertheless, the NEB will review such occurrences on a case-by-case basis.

In the case of a withdrawal from the CPE either near to or during the CPE due to extenuating circumstances, the candidate may request a partial refund (up to a 20% refund of the CPE exam fees paid + applicable tax). The candidate must send a written request by email to the NEB (neb-bne@cvma-acmv.org) within seven days and include the appropriate documentation, as indicated in the paragraph above. Failure to obtain a visa or other required travel documentation is not considered an extenuating circumstance. Candidates are responsible for ensuring all documents permitting travel are in place prior to submitting any non-refundable/non-transferable fee.

Dispute of Payments

Please note that if the payment transaction made by a candidate results in a dishonor or a dispute as to the validity of the payment for any NEB services, the candidate's NEB application and/or exam registration may be suspended and your exam scores may be withheld pending resolution of the dishonor or dispute and the payment of additional fees by you arising from such dishonor or dispute.
