Canadian Veterinary College Accreditation Remains Unchanged
September 15, 2025
Recent reports about Canadian medical schools no longer sharing joint accreditation with Canadian and American bodies has raised questions about Canadian veterinary school accreditation. At present, there is no movement to split the accreditation of Canadian Veterinary Colleges from the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education® (AVMA COE®).
Nevertheless, the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) takes the issues surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) that have arisen due to recent U.S. policy changes very seriously. We recognize these developments may generate strong and raw emotions. We acknowledge those feelings and affirm that here in Canada, the CVMA and the Canadian Veterinary Colleges have an unwavering commitment to advancing and reporting on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) in veterinary education and the profession.
Ensuring our colleagues are seen, valued, supported, and safe strengthens our profession, society, and the health and welfare of animals.
