CVMA Committee Vacancy: Animal Health Technology/Veterinary Technician Program Accreditation Committee (AHTVTPAC)

The CVMA is looking for members who are interested in filling one vacancy on its Animal Health Technology / Veterinary Technician Program Accreditation Committee (AHTVTPAC).
Mandate
Under the guidance of and having responsibility to the Council of the CVMA, the AHTVTPAC:
- recommend the accreditation standards for animal health/veterinary technology training programs for CVMA Council approval.
- regularly review and propose amendments to the standards to keep the process current with technological changes in veterinary clinical practice.
- conduct accreditation site visits to CVMA accredited programs every 5 years. When a program has been fully accredited for two consecutive cycles, the program may apply for a two-year extension.
- review annual reports from each CVMA accredited program.
- respond to requests from animal health and veterinary technology training programs for CVMA accreditation.
- provide a consultation service, on behalf of the CVMA, concerning the status of programs in Canada, the procedure to follow in establishing new programs to meet accreditation standards and respond to queries regarding technician training.
Skills and Expertise
The ideal candidate:
- must be a CVMA member;
- is a practitioner;
- and is committed to the role and education of veterinary technicians.
Time Commitment / Working Relationship / Term of Office
The time commitment to serve on the AHTVTPAC includes:
- One annual in-person committee meeting – usually held in Ottawa, over two days in March. Responsibilities include reviewing reports and presenting their results to the committee, reviewing and revising accreditation standards and policies and procedures, and completing any paperwork resulting from the meeting.
- Two virtual meetings – usually held in March and November.
- Participation in accreditation site visits – site visits are usually scheduled in the fall and spring. Members will be required to participate in up to three site visits a year. Responsibilities include reviewing self-study reports before the site visit, participation in pre-site visit meeting, attending the site visit (usually two days in length), and participating in producing the Report of Evaluation and recommendation to the CVMA council.
- Review and editing of AHTVTPAC documents- committee members will be required to assist with the review and editing of the documents used in the accreditation process on an ongoing basis. Members will communicate with other committee members and the CVMA staff via e-mail, as required.
CVMA staff, as delegated by the Chief Executive Director, facilitates the ongoing operations of the AHTVTPAC Committee.
Appointments are made annually for a one-year term (renewable). It is recommended that members be ready to serve one to two 3-year terms.
