CVMA Presents Inaugural Youth Science Canada Award

The Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) proudly presented its inaugural Youth Science Canada Award at the 2025 Canada-Wide Science Fair, held from May 31 to June 6 at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, N.B.
This year’s recipient is Nycea Hazelwood of Lethbridge, Alberta, recognized for her outstanding project titled Putting a Stop to Bacterial Talk — Cinnamon as a Quorum Sensing Inhibitor to Prevent Biofilm Growth.
Presented by Drs. Nicole Jewett and Jim Berry, the award celebrates excellence in animal health, animal welfare, or veterinary public health. It includes a certificate and a $1,000 cash prize.
The CVMA is proud to support the next generation of scientific innovators through its partnership with Youth Science Canada, the leading organization supporting youth STEM projects nationwide.
