Joint memberships strengthen all associations, benefiting members and advancing the veterinary profession across Canada.

The Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) and the Association des médecins vétérinaires du Québec (AMVQ) en pratique des petits animaux met on multiple occasions throughout 2024 to discuss practical measures aimed at strengthening collaboration and enhancing the accessibility of services provided by both associations to veterinarians and technicians in the province of Québec and, in turn, across Canada.

Recognizing that services offered by both the CVMA and AMVQ are highly complementary, the associations will offer joint membership for small animal practitioners in Québec beginning in 2026, which will not only benefit both organizations but all veterinarians across the country.

This partnership will contribute to expanding the CVMA membership base, which will:

  • Enhance programs and services through shared resources to better serve all members.
  • Strengthen our profession through greater collaboration.
  • Provide the veterinary profession with a stronger national voice.

Benefit Pillars

Benefit Details:

  • Growth in membership for both associations.
  • Stronger government relations.
  • Efficiency through consolidated efforts.
  • Resource sharing and optimization of strengths.
  • Dividends from the insurance broker, rebates shared with AMVQ.
  • Support for bilingualism in Canada and increased presence of French at the CVMA.

Additional details will soon be communicated to all veterinarians in Quebec.

The new two-year pilot partnership will commence in 2026 and will provide discounted fees at 50% in the first year and 25% in the second year to AMVQ members selecting joint membership.  Membership will be offered at full cost to all Québec veterinarians in 2028.

With this partnership, CVMA has decided to freeze the 2026 membership fees to the 2025 rates for one year for members across Canada as we build our voice in Quebec.

For Quebec veterinarians interested in this joint membership, please contact the AMVQ.
