Under development: Competence Assessment for Limited Practice for experienced Internationally Educated Veterinarians in Production Animal, Companion Animal, and Equine Practice

April 13, 2026

Competence Assessment for Limited Practice offers an alternative pathway to assessments for internationally educated veterinarians with established experience in production animal, companion animal, or equine practice. Designed for those with significant recent work experience, the pathway focuses on competence demonstrated in a portfolio assessment and supervised practice evaluation.

Competence Assessment for Limited Practice supports seasoned veterinarians who have maintained their skills, completed a veterinary medicine program, practiced within a regulated jurisdiction, and meet required language proficiency standards. This pathway is intended for experienced veterinarians, not recent graduates, seeking recognition of their competencies within their defined area of practice.

Please contact your provincial regulator or the NEB should you be interested in this pathway and wish to confirm whether it is offered in your province.

Stay tuned: additional information about this pathway will be posted on our website as it becomes available.
