July 11, 2023
Quebec City, Que. – Dr. Roger Warren was awarded Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) Honourary Membership for his significant contributions to the national veterinary profession and philanthropic ways.
Dr. Warren began his successful career as an investment banker and manager in Toronto. He then spent eight years working in New York, London, and the U.K. In 1979, Dr. Warren, and his late wife Mary, established the Rathlyn Foundation to better society and enrich lives by investing in medical education, research, and veterinary science. The foundation also helps supports service animals.
“Dr. Warren’s philanthropic giving will be felt for generations of veterinarians to come. His sincere interest in our students, his dedication to teaching and learning, and his desire to enhance our services have been felt deeply at the Atlantic Veterinary College and we are incredibly grateful to him,” emphasizes Dr. John Vanleeuwen, Interim Dean at AVC, University of Prince Edward Island
The Rathlyn Foundation has supported numerous groups and centres at the AVC, including the Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Centre and the AVC Wildlife Service. The Foundation’s support of Indigenous communities has been critical to the work the AVC Chinook Project which provides essential veterinary care to remote communities in Northern Canada. Most recently, the Foundation’s support has been instrumental in the development of the AVC’s Diagnostic Imaging Centre which will enhance patient care and assist with teaching and faculty, staff, and student learning.
Dr. Warren’s donations to several programs at Canadian veterinary colleges have enriched the lives of animals and veterinary care providers alike. Working towards a better future for animals, students, and institutions, Dr. Warren has embraced his role in contributing to that future.
Dr. Timothy Ogilvie, Professor Emeritus, AVC, describes Dr. Warren as a true, “Gentleman’s gentleman.” He shies away from individual credit and values the roles he and others play in serving society via advancements in veterinary medicine through targeted and generous philanthropy.
Honourary Membership is presented to a CVMA member for long and outstanding service on CVMA Council, Executive, Boards and Committees, or for outstanding contributions to the veterinary profession.
